Volt In-Service Upgrades
Upgrade the engine while it’s running.
No-Risk Five Nines
If you’re in a business where ‘five nines’ availability is a requirement, not an aspiration, then you know that upgrades and patches can be a huge drain on your tiny downtime budget. Volt’s Active In-Service Upgrades (ActiveISU) lets you do most code changes (including some full releases) with no more than a 400-millisecond outage, without having to create extra clusters or do anything complicated or risky.

Many data platforms claim the ability to upgrade software while maintaining service but this typically requires pointing traffic to additional clusters running elsewhere and taking a cluster offline while the software is upgraded. This either leads to increased TCO for providing an entire additional cluster during an upgrade or reduced resiliency/availability by reducing geo redundancy by a whole cluster.
Active(ISU) gives you the ability to upgrade the software version of a cluster while it still runs and services traffic. No need to build additional clusters or point traffic to distant remote locations. Each node within a Volt cluster is taken out of service, upgraded, and re-instated one node at a time, while the cluster is still processing traffic.
